File security and processing
Every tool on TangleOff currently processes files in your browser. This page explains exactly what that means, and what it does not.

How processing works
When you open a file in a tool, it is read into your browser's memory and transformed using standard browser capabilities on your device.
Image tools use the browser's image and canvas APIs, together with an open-source compression library that runs in a web worker. PDF tools use an open-source PDF library that also runs in the browser.
The result is offered back to you as a download. No tool uploads your file, and none of the processing engines make network requests.
Do my files leave my device?
No. For every tool currently available, the file is processed entirely on your device and is not sent to a TangleOff server.
Nothing is stored on a server, because nothing is sent to one in the first place.
Temporary data in your browser
While a tool is open, your file and its result are held in your browser's memory so you can preview and download them.
A tool's start-over or reset action releases the generated download, and closing or reloading the tab clears it. TangleOff does not persist your files.
What we do not claim
We do not claim to encrypt your files, because there is no transfer to encrypt.
We do not claim that no record of your visit exists. Standard server logs and aggregate product events are described in the privacy notice.
Password-protected PDFs
Encrypted or password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Remove the protection in the originating application first, then open the unlocked file here.
If a server is ever involved
If a future tool needs server processing, its page will say so clearly and will describe what is stored, for how long, and how to delete it. No tool silently uploads your files.
Good practice
As with any website, use a device you trust and keep your browser up to date.
We cannot guarantee that any output will be accepted by a third party such as a government authority.
