  • Printed photos must be 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), with the head measuring 25–35 mm from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.
  • Online renewal accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC or HEIF files between 54 KB and 10 MB, taken in the last six months. Do not scan or photograph a printed photo.
  • U.S. visa and Diversity Visa digital images are a separate requirement: a square JPEG, 600 × 600 to 1200 × 1200 px, 240 KB or less.

The crop is centred on the image. If your subject is off-centre, crop the photo yourself first so the face sits near the middle of the frame. The tool sets the shape of the photo; it does not check head size, background or expression.
